In 1959, architect and designer Gio Ponti, also editor of Domus, selected and published some pieces by Sergio Rodrigues for the respected Italian magazine. One of the pieces selected for the article was the armchair that later received the name of Gio, in tribute to the Italian architect. This piece was the first that Sergio designed with this type of upholstery, in which seat and back make a single piece. On the sides of the armchair there are two pegs that can be removed to adjust the shell in three different positions, to sit formally or more relaxed. To make it possible to cross the legs, there are no arms in the armchair, the idea was that young people could be more comfortable, with the idea, even, that they would find it a good place to meditate. The Gio armchair is one of the classics designed in the first decade of creations of Sergio Rodrigues and continues today as contemporary and youthful as at that time.
